Good things begin to happen to your body as soon as you stop smoking. You can get rid of most of the injuries and illnesses that smoking causes.

You feel more clear-headed and alert
Some people feel this after a few days, while it it can take a little longer for others.
Each week, the risk of suffering from stress or experiencing poor mental health will decline. You become calmer, even if it doesn’t feel like you are to start with. You will also begin to sleep better.

Skin
Your skin takes on a healthier colour. This is because the skin is now getting more oxygen and blood than it did when you smoked.
Do you get pimples? You may notice that you get fewer pimples after a while.
Your skin does not age as quickly. You don’t get wrinkles as quickly as you would have, if you had continued smoking.

Teeth
Your breath smells better. Your teeth begin to get whiter. Your gums become healthier and the risk of you losing your teeth declines.

Throat
Tiny hairs grow on the inside of your throat, found in the part where the air goes down into the lungs. These tiny hairs protect the lungs from dirt and dust. They are called cilia. Smoking destroys these tiny hairs, but they grow back when you stop smoking.

You cough less
Did you use to cough when you smoked? After a few months, you might notice that you are coughing less. To stop smoking is particularly good for people who suffer from asthma.

Taste and smell
Your sense of taste and smell will begin to improve.

Your lungs begin to work better
When you stop smoking, your lungs begin to clear out the rubbish that has collected there. You might cough more to start with.
You might notice that it becomes easier to breathe, and that you feel fitter.
Your lungs become better at protecting you against illnesses, from things like colds to serious lung diseases.

Heart
Your heart begins to beat more slowly. Your pulse returns to normal. When smoking, the nicotine in the cigarettes made your heart beat faster and increased your blood pressure.
The risk of getting heart problems declines.

Blood vessels
Your blood circulation improves. This means that more blood is able to get around your body.
Smoking damages your blood vessels. This damage begins to heal when you stop smoking.
There is less risk of you getting blood clots.

Stomach
Smoking increasesd the risk of getting ulcers and other stomach problems. The risk of getting these will now decline.

Back
The risk of getting backache declines. This is because more blood is able to get around the body.

Bones
Your bones become stronger. If you break a bone in your body, it will heal faster than it would have when you smoked.

Penis
After a few weeks, you’ll find it easier to get an erect penis. This is because it’s easier for the blood to move into the penis.
Your testicles will also begin to produce better sperm. It will be easier for you to make someone pregnant.

Easier to become pregnant
You will find it easier to become pregnant. Substances that are in cigarettes have among other things, a negative effect on your ovaries.
